The busy streets of Saint Louis University quickly became a crime scene when fellow student Colin Thierry witnessed a white SUV speed down Grand Blvd. and collide with a student, then continued to drive away yesterday. Police rushed to the scene before Saint Louis University’s Department of Public Safety could arrive. They identified the female victim and survivor as she laid on the ground unconscious, unresponsive, and with a leg injury.

Colin Thierry was a short distance away from the accident when it happened. Suddenly, he heard the acceleration of the car and described it to be going 60 to 80 mph. Thierry saw the impact of the vehicle “clipping” the victim and ran to the scene. Thierry was panicked because if he had crossed the street just seconds before, it would have been him. A small crowd gathered to see if the student was okay. She suffered injuries but survived and was not in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle sped past the red light and struck the student fled the scene. Police are working on finding and identifying the driver. Thierry said, “You can’t predict these things from happening, but it might be a good idea to limit this kind of situation from happening at the school.” Thierry encourages others to be more careful and always look both ways when crossing the street. The victim is expected to make a full recovery.
